Leveling Guide: 58–70
Your path through the Dark Portal, zone by zone, dungeon by dungeon.
Before You Step Through the Portal
Key tips that save hours of wasted time.
Gear Resets Fast
Hellfire quest greens replace most Classic epics. Don't waste gold upgrading gear before 58.
Save 800g for Flying
You need 800g at level 70 for basic flying. Start saving early. Check our gold guide.
Pick Your Spec Early
Respeccing costs add up. Decide your 70 role before Outland and talent accordingly. Check our talent builds.
Don't Skip Dungeons
Each dungeon has quests worth massive XP. One full run with quests = 1-2 hours of solo questing.
Choose Your Leveling Path
Three ways to 70. Pick the one that matches your playstyle.
Pros
- Best of both worlds: quest XP + dungeon quest XP
- Builds reputation naturally through zone quests AND dungeon runs
- Most gear variety, as quest rewards fill gaps between dungeon drops
- Never gets boring, with constant variety
Cons
- Slightly slower than pure dungeon spam with a premade group
- Requires managing both quest logs and dungeon groups
Pros
- 100% solo, no group finding, no waiting
- Flexible schedule, log in and out whenever
- Great gold income from quest rewards (1,000g+ from 58-70)
- Experience the full Outland story
Cons
- Slowest path to 70 overall
- Miss dungeon-only gear drops and quest XP bonuses
- No dungeon reputation, so you will need to grind it at 70
- Weaker gear at 70 without dungeon blues
Pros
- Fastest XP/hour with an efficient premade group
- Best gear at 70, with full dungeon blues before you even start heroics
- Huge reputation gains, can hit Revered with factions before 70
- Learn your class role under pressure
Cons
- Requires finding groups constantly (or a dedicated 5-man)
- Extremely repetitive, same dungeons dozens of times
- Almost no gold income, miss all quest reward money
- Can be slow if PUGs keep wiping or disbanding
Zone-by-Zone Progression
Follow this path for the smoothest leveling experience.
Enter Outland
Level 58–62Step through the Dark Portal into Hellfire Peninsula. TBC greens replace Classic epics, so don't hold on to old gear. Focus on the main quest chains and run your first dungeons.
- Hellfire Ramparts (59-62)
- The Blood Furnace (60-63)
- Complete main Hellfire quest chains
- Choose Aldor or Scryer reputation
- Train new abilities in Shattrath
Leveling Through Outland
Level 62–67Work through Zangarmarsh, Terokkar Forest, Nagrand, and Blade's Edge. Each zone has dungeons, so run them at least once for the quest XP. Start building key reputations.
- Slave Pens & Underbog (62-65)
- Mana-Tombs & Auchenai Crypts (64-67)
- Sethekk Halls (65-68)
- Build Cenarion Expedition & Lower City rep
- Save gold. You'll need 800g at 70
- Pick up profession recipes as you go
Final Push to 70
Level 67–70The home stretch. Netherstorm and Shadowmoon Valley have important attunement chains. Dungeons here drop better gear. Start thinking about your level 70 spec.
- Mechanar, Botanica, Arcatraz (67-70)
- Shadow Labyrinth (68-70)
- Shattered Halls & Steamvault (69-70)
- Hit level 70 & buy basic flying (800g)
- Start Karazhan attunement questline
- Finalize your talent build for endgame
Dungeon & Rep Synergy
Run the right dungeons at the right time to stack XP + reputation.
