Dungeon & Raid Guide
From your first Hellfire Ramparts run to downing Illidan — every dungeon and raid in TBC, organized by phase.
Run these dungeons as you quest through Outland. Each one gives great XP, quest rewards, and early reputation with key factions.
Welcome to Outland! Step through the Dark Portal and into Hellfire Peninsula. The quests here give massive gear upgrades — even TBC greens replace most Classic epics. Focus on the main quest chains and don't worry about grinding. The experience is fast and the quest rewards are excellent.
Dungeons
- Hellfire Ramparts (59-62)
- The Blood Furnace (60-63)
Goals
- Complete the main Hellfire Peninsula quest chains
- Run Hellfire Ramparts and The Blood Furnace for gear upgrades
- Replace your worst Classic gear with quest rewards
- Choose Aldor or Scryer reputation (research which benefits your class)
- Train new abilities at your class trainer in Shattrath
Work your way through Outland's zones, roughly following this order: Zangarmarsh (62-64), Terokkar Forest (63-65), Nagrand (65-67), and dip into Blade's Edge Mountains (66-68). Each zone has a corresponding dungeon or two. Don't skip dungeons — they give excellent experience and gear, especially your first clear.
Dungeons
- The Slave Pens (62-64)
- The Underbog (63-65)
- Mana-Tombs (64-66)
- Auchenai Crypts (65-67)
- Sethekk Halls (65-68)
Goals
- Quest through each zone, following the natural progression
- Run each dungeon at least once for quests and gear
- Start building reputation with key factions (Cenarion Expedition, Lower City)
- Pick up your profession recipes as you encounter them
- Save gold for your flying mount at 70 — you'll need 800g total
The home stretch. Netherstorm and Shadowmoon Valley are your main questing zones, and both have important attunement quest chains. The dungeons here are more challenging but drop better gear. Start thinking about your level 70 spec and what pre-raid gear you'll target.
Dungeons
- The Mechanar (67-70)
- The Botanica (68-70)
- The Arcatraz (68-70)
- Shadow Labyrinth (68-70)
- The Shattered Halls (69-70)
- The Steamvault (69-70)
Goals
- Hit level 70
- Buy your basic flying mount (60% speed, 800g)
- Complete the Karazhan attunement questline (starts with 'Archmage Alturus' in Deadwind Pass)
- Start the Tempest Keep attunement chain
- Finalize your talent build for your chosen role
You're 70 — now gear up. Run Normal dungeons for reputation keys, then Heroics for epics and Badges of Justice. This is where your real build comes together.
You're 70! Before jumping into Heroics, run normal level 70 dungeons to gear up and hit the reputation thresholds you need for Heroic keys. You need Revered with each faction to buy their Heroic dungeon key. This is also a good time to start crafting your BiS pieces if you have the professions.
Dungeons
- Shadow Labyrinth (Normal) — Lower City reputation
- The Shattered Halls (Normal) — Honor Hold / Thrallmar reputation
- The Steamvault (Normal) — Cenarion Expedition reputation
- The Mechanar (Normal) — Sha'tar reputation
- The Botanica (Normal) — Sha'tar reputation
- The Arcatraz (Normal) — Sha'tar reputation
- Old Hillsbrad Foothills (Normal) — Keepers of Time reputation
- The Black Morass (Normal) — Keepers of Time reputation
Goals
- Get Revered with at least 2-3 key factions for Heroic keys
- Replace any remaining leveling greens with dungeon blues
- Start crafted BiS pieces (Spellstrike, Frozen Shadoweave, etc.)
- Complete your Karazhan attunement
- Learn your spec's rotation and stat priorities
- Buy or craft essential consumables (flasks, food buffs, potions)
Heroic dungeons are where the real gearing begins. Every boss drops an epic, and you earn Badges of Justice that can be spent on powerful gear. Heroics are significantly harder than normals — expect to wipe, especially in Shattered Halls and Arcatraz. Start with the easier ones and work your way up.
Dungeons
- Heroic Slave Pens (Easier)
- Heroic Underbog (Easier)
- Heroic Mana-Tombs (Medium)
- Heroic Mechanar (Medium)
- Heroic Sethekk Halls (Medium)
- Heroic Botanica (Medium)
- Heroic Shadow Labyrinth (Harder)
- Heroic Steamvault (Harder)
- Heroic Shattered Halls (Hardest)
- Heroic Arcatraz (Hardest)
Goals
- Farm Badges of Justice for badge gear (41 badge items are often pre-raid BiS)
- Get your pre-raid BiS items from Heroic boss drops
- Reach Exalted with key factions for their epic rewards
- Practice your rotation and role in a challenging environment
- Build your network — find a guild or regular dungeon group
From your first Karazhan clear to Sunwell Plateau — TBC's raid progression is one of the best in WoW history. Each tier is a meaningful step up in difficulty and rewards.
Karazhan is a 10-player raid and the entry point to TBC raiding. It's in Deadwind Pass and requires an attunement questline. Kara has 11 bosses, takes 2-3 hours to clear (once you know the fights), and drops Tier 4 tokens plus excellent loot. This is where TBC raiding gets addictive.
Raids
- Karazhan (10-player raid)
- Gruul's Lair (25-player raid — 2 bosses, quick clear)
- Magtheridon's Lair (25-player raid — 1 boss)
Goals
- Clear Karazhan weekly for Tier 4 tokens and epic loot
- Learn raid mechanics and boss strategies
- Join a raiding guild if you haven't already
- Get attuned for Gruul's Lair and Magtheridon's Lair
- Start collecting Tier 4 set pieces
- Progress through Karazhan: Attumen > Moroes > Maiden > Opera > Curator > Shade of Aran > Netherspite > Chess > Prince
Tier 5 is where raiding gets serious. Serpentshrine Cavern (6 bosses) and Tempest Keep: The Eye (4 bosses) are 25-player raids with significantly harder mechanics. Both require attunement chains that involve killing bosses in earlier raids. This is progression content — expect weeks of wiping to learn new encounters.
Dungeons
- Serpentshrine Cavern (25-player — Hydross, Lurker, Leotheras, Karathress, Morogrim, Lady Vashj)
- Tempest Keep: The Eye (25-player — Void Reaver, Al'ar, Solarian, Kael'thas)
Goals
- Complete the attunement for SSC and TK (requires Kara/Gruul/Mag clears)
- Collect Tier 5 tokens from SSC and TK bosses
- Kill Lady Vashj and Kael'thas Sunstrider (the final bosses)
- Upgrade crafted items to their next tier if applicable
- Master your class rotation for maximum performance
- Get attuned for Mount Hyjal and Black Temple (requires Vashj and Kael kills)
The pinnacle of TBC raiding. Mount Hyjal (5 bosses) and Black Temple (9 bosses) are Tier 6 content, featuring iconic encounters like Archimonde and Illidan Stormrage. Sunwell Plateau (6 bosses) is the final raid, released in Patch 2.4, and represents the hardest PvE content in TBC. Only the most dedicated guilds clear Sunwell.
Dungeons
- Mount Hyjal (25-player — Rage Winterchill, Anetheron, Kaz'rogal, Azgalor, Archimonde)
- Black Temple (25-player — Najentus, Supremus, Shade of Akama, Teron Gorefiend, Gurtogg, RoS, Mother Shahraz, Council, Illidan)
- Sunwell Plateau (25-player — Kalecgos, Brutallus, Felmyst, Twins, M'uru, Kil'jaeden)
Goals
- Collect Tier 6 set pieces from Black Temple and Mount Hyjal
- Kill Illidan Stormrage — the defining boss of TBC
- Progress through Sunwell Plateau for the best gear in the game
- Optimize with gems, enchants, and consumables for every boss
- Experience the full TBC raiding journey from Karazhan to Kil'jaeden
- Prepare for Wrath of the Lich King if you've cleared everything
